As the world changes, so many disasters occur in our lives. Flooding, hurricanes, avalanches, volcano eruptions and so on. Every time I see the news about it, I can’t leave it without drawing attention to it. It is always terrifying to hear that someone is dead because of natural disaster. It comes to my mind that everyone could be a victim. That’s why I decided to write an opinion essay about New Zeland’s volcano eruption which took place on one of the New Zeland’s island called White Island.
White Island is a popular place among tourists. So on the 10th of December there were plenty of them. The tourists weren’t warned about the coming eruption, so 6 people didn’t have a chance to escape. Thirty-one people are injured and stay in hospitals. Due to helicopter pilots and doctors, they are alive. Eight people are still missing.
Volcanologists describe the eruption as short-lived and impulsive. Some water flow caused the eruption, so magma started lifting out of blue. Modern-day technologies can’t make it possible to track potential signs of the eruption. The experts are concerned, that the volcano can erupt again in a couple of hours, so no rescures are allowed to come clother.
I'm appaled how much damage this eruption caused. Not taking into account that the flora and fauna of the island had gone, six innocent people died. They were just explorers that went off on adventures, but as a result, they met the death. Now their friends and relatives mourn the loss, some pray for the victims to be alive.
The main thing that bothers me. Who is guilty for that? It is quite obvious that natural disaster can't stay under control. However, why didn't enyone turn on the warning and start rescue mission? If it was a well-known fact that there is a possibility of such disaster, why no one is in charge of tourists rescue. The government claims that there is no state-of-the-art equipment for detecting erupions.
All in all, I hope that the New Zeland government will prevent in future such accidents and come up with a solution to the problem. Eerie accidents happend, happens and will happen, but I wish I could change everything to make our cruel world a little bit better.
